Why Blue Mosque matters

Built in the early seventeenth century, the Sultan Ahmed Mosque is nicknamed the Blue Mosque for the thousands of blue tiles inside. Its cascading domes and six minarets make it one of the great landmarks of the city. It's still an active mosque, so visits are timed around prayers.
