Why Douro Valley at Pinhao matters

The Douro Valley is where port is born. Steep slopes are carved into terraces of vines, and the river winds between them. Pinhao is a small station town, with a tiled station, and from here you can take boat trips and visit wine estates. A train from Porto follows the river for part of the route.
