Why Glasgow Cathedral matters

Glasgow's medieval cathedral is one of the few big churches in Scotland to have survived the Reformation largely intact. Step into the dark, atmospheric interior and then go downstairs to the crypt, where the tomb of Saint Mungo, the city's patron, lies. Behind it, the hill of the Necropolis rises, so combine the two.

Talking points

  • It is dedicated to Saint Mungo, the city's founder.
  • The Gothic building has a beautiful lower church.
  • The Necropolis rises behind it.
