Why Haukland Beach matters

Haukland beach looks tropical until you touch the water. Pale sand and turquoise shallows sit beneath jagged peaks, with the Arctic Ocean beyond. In summer, brave swimmers dip in, and in winter the aurora sometimes lights the sky above. A short walk across a headland leads to the neighbouring Uttakleiv beach. Take layers, as the wind can be cold.

Talking points

  • Pale sand contrasts with dark mountains.
  • The water is cold even in summer.
  • Uttakleiv beach is a short walk away.
