High Coast
A dramatic stretch of the Baltic coast with forested hills, islands and fjord-like bays, UNESCO-listed for its land uplift.
For storytellers
Why High Coast matters
The High Coast is the part of Sweden where the land is still rising. After the last ice age, the weight of the glaciers lifted, and the ground is still rebounding, creating islands, hills and sheltered bays. A suspension bridge crosses the main channel, trails climb forested peaks with sea views, and small fishing villages dot the shore. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and a lovely region for hiking and kayaking.
Talking points
