Why Las Medulas matters
Las Medulas looks like a natural wonder, but the Romans made it. They mined gold here by flooding the mountain with water, leaving red pinnacles and valleys. Chestnut forests now cover the slopes. You can hike to viewpoints and walk through old tunnels. It is an unusual and beautiful landscape.
