Manarola
A Cinque Terre village stacked on a rock above the sea, famous for its sunset views.
For storytellers
Why Manarola matters
Manarola is built on a black rock that drops into the sea, with colourful houses clinging to every ledge. Vineyards surround it, producing the local sweet wine Sciacchetra. The classic photo is taken from a path on the east side, especially at sunset. It is small, so the lanes can get crowded, but a swim off the rocks or a glass of wine at golden hour is worth it.
Talking points
- Terraced vineyards surround the village, and the local sweet wine is called Sciacchetra.
- Sunset is the classic time for photos from the headland path.
- You can swim from the rocky bathing area in summer.
- It is part of the Cinque Terre UNESCO site.
