Why Mystras matters
Mystras rises up a steep hill with churches, monasteries and the ruins of a palace. It was an important Byzantine centre in the later years of the empire. Inside the churches you can see painted frescoes, and the top of the hill gives a wide view over the plain below. Bring comfortable shoes for steep paths.
