Why Phaistos matters

Phaistos is quieter than Knossos but has a great setting, high on a ridge looking over farmland toward the mountains. The ruins show a large courtyard and staircases. The famous Phaistos Disc was found here. Pair it with a visit to the beach at Matala.

Talking points

  • The Phaistos Disc was discovered here.
  • The view over the plain is lovely.
