Why Ponte Pietra matters

Ponte Pietra is the oldest bridge in Verona, with arches from Roman times. It was blown up in 1945 and carefully reconstructed. Cross it and climb to the hillside viewpoint for a postcard panorama. Cross it at dusk and look back, when the river and old rooftops glow in soft light.

Talking points

  • Rebuilt using the original stones.
  • Excellent evening views from Castel San Pietro.
  • It is pedestrian only.
