Samaria Gorge
One of Europe's famous hiking gorges, a long walk through cliffs to the sea.
For storytellers
Why Samaria Gorge matters
The Samaria Gorge is a long trail descending between huge rock walls to the south coast. It is a demanding day hike, ending at a seaside village where you take a ferry out. The narrowest section, called the Iron Gates, is very narrow. Wear proper footwear and bring water.
Talking points
- The hike descends to the south coast.
- A ferry takes walkers out at the end.
- The narrow Iron Gates are a highlight.
