Why Skanderbeg Square matters

This is the heart of the capital: a wide, open plaza with a statue of Skanderbeg on horseback at one end. Around it you find the national history museum with its colourful mosaic, a clock tower, an opera house and an Ottoman mosque. Locals cross it at all hours, and fountains light up in the evening. A good starting point for a walk around the city.

Talking points

  • A statue of the national hero stands at its centre.
  • The national history museum faces the square.
  • Evening is lively and well lit.
