Smögen
A tiny granite island on the west coast with a famous wooden boardwalk lined with red fishing sheds, shops and ice cream stands.
For storytellers
Why Smögen matters
Smögen is the picture-postcard Bohuslän coast: smooth granite rocks, red wooden sheds on stilts and a long boardwalk bustling in summer. You can eat fresh shrimp, swim off the rocks, and eat ice cream on the quay. It gets very busy in July, so try a weekday or the shoulder season, when the pace is calmer and the light just as golden.
Talking points
- The boardwalk is built along old fishing sheds.
- Shrimp sandwiches are the classic snack.
- July is the busiest month.
