One of the most spectacular mountain roads in Europe.
For storytellers
Why Transfagarasan Highway matters
The Transfagarasan climbs through the Fagaras mountains with hairpin bends, tunnels and views that open up at every turn. It was built in the 1970s for military reasons and became a favourite among drivers and cyclists. The high section, near Balea Lake, is usually open only in summer, and weather can change quickly.
