Church, mosque or temple
Nidaros Cathedral
Trondheim, Norway
Norway's national shrine, a Gothic cathedral built over the grave of St Olav, with a sculpted west front.
Neighbourhood · Norway · Trøndelag
A cobbled neighbourhood of wooden houses, cafes and boutiques on the east bank of the Nidelva river.
For storytellers
Bakklandet is Trondheim's cosiest district, with brightly painted wooden houses, small cafes and shops beside the river. You can cross the Old Town Bridge to get there, and a bicycle lift for cyclists is an odd local oddity. In summer terraces fill up and in winter candle-lit windows glow. It's a pleasant place to wander for an hour or more.
