Why Church of St Donatus matters

This circular building looks like nothing else on the Adriatic. It was built using recycled stones from the Roman forum beside it, and you can still spot Roman inscriptions and column pieces in its base. Inside, the empty space gives great acoustics, which is why concerts are held here. It is the symbol of Zadar.

Talking points

  • Roman stone pieces are visible in its construction.
  • Its acoustics make it a popular concert venue.
  • It is an emblem of the city.
