Why Sea Organ matters

Sit on the marble steps and listen: the sea itself is playing. Pipes under the stone catch the movement of the water and push air through whistles, making a low, ever-changing sound. It is quiet, odd and strangely calming, and at sunset it's one of the most photographed spots in Zadar. The effect is best on a day with moderate waves.

Talking points

  • Wave movement pushes air through pipes to make sound.
  • The sound changes with every wave.
  • Sunset is the most popular time to visit.
