Why El Rastro Market and La Latina matters

On Sundays the streets around Calle Ribera de Curtidores fill with stalls selling antiques, clothes and odd bits and pieces. When you have had enough of the crowd, head to the neighbouring La Latina, where locals do the Sunday tapas ritual, bar-hopping along Calle Cava Baja. It is the classic Madrid Sunday.

Talking points

  • The Rastro flea market runs on Sundays and public holidays.
  • La Latina is the traditional Sunday tapas district.
  • Keep an eye on your belongings in the crowd.
