Why Hypogeum of Hal Saflieni matters

The Hypogeum is a maze of chambers carved into the rock about five thousand years ago, used for ceremonies and burial. It is extremely fragile, so only a small number of visitors are allowed each day. You descend through rooms with painted ceilings and strange acoustics. It is a rare, quiet experience.
