Why Kościuszko Mound matters

On the western edge of the city rises a grassy hill that is not natural. It was heaped up by hand in the 19th century in memory of Tadeusz Kościuszko, a hero of the fight for Polish independence. A path winds up to the top, and on a clear day you can see the whole city and the mountains beyond. It is a favourite sunset spot for locals.

Talking points

  • The mound was built by hand in honour of Tadeusz Kościuszko.
  • On a clear day you can see the Tatras from the top.
