Why Malmö matters

Malmö is Sweden's gateway to the continent. You can ride from Copenhagen airport in about twenty minutes over the great Öresund Bridge, and the city feels like a blend of both countries. There is a Renaissance castle, a cobbled old square lined with cafes, and a seaside promenade where people swim off wooden piers all year. The skyline is dominated by a spiralling tower that became the city's symbol. It is also one of Sweden's most diverse cities, so the street food scene is excellent.

Talking points

  • Copenhagen is a short train ride away over the Öresund Bridge.
  • The Turning Torso tower twists through ninety degrees from base to top.
  • Falafel and street food here are a local point of pride.
