Why Morskie Oko matters

Morskie Oko means Eye of the Sea, and when you reach it you see why. The lake lies in a rocky bowl surrounded by peaks, and its water is deep green and very clear. A road leads most of the way up from the car park, and you cover the final stretch on foot, normally with plenty of other walkers. There is a mountain hut by the shore for tea and soup. Go early to enjoy it at its quietest.

Talking points

  • The name means Eye of the Sea.
  • The walk from the road is long but easy, and a mountain hut waits at the shore.
