Why Mykonos Town matters

Mykonos Town, also called Chora, is made of narrow white lanes that curve and double back, said to confuse pirates in the past. Bougainvillea spills over walls, small chapels hide on corners and shops line the alleys. At the water's edge, Little Venice has balconies over the waves and the famous windmills stand on the ridge. It is lively at night, but the early morning streets are peaceful and photogenic.

Talking points

  • The maze-like lanes are part of the island's charm.
  • Little Venice and the windmills are the iconic view.
  • It is also the departure point for boats to Delos.
