Why Palma matters

Palma is the gateway to Mallorca, and it is much more than an airport. Its great Gothic cathedral rises straight from the seafront, the old quarter is full of shaded courtyards, and the harbour is lined with yachts and cafes. From here you can reach the Tramuntana mountains, hidden coves and sleepy villages by bus, car or bike. Come for the sea and stay for the old town.

Talking points

  • The cathedral stands directly on the waterfront and lights up beautifully at night.
  • Mallorca has mountains, beaches and cycling routes all within a short drive of the capital.
  • The old town is full of inner courtyards, some of which can be glimpsed through open doors.
