Why Semperoper matters

The Semperoper has been destroyed by fire and by war, and rebuilt both times. Its Italian Renaissance style fits the riverside setting, and inside it is all red velvet and gold. If you cannot get a ticket to a performance, guided tours let you see the auditorium.

Talking points

  • The building was rebuilt twice
  • Both opera and ballet are staged
  • Guided tours show the interior
