A national park at the tip of the Snæfellsnes peninsula, with a glacier-capped volcano, lava fields and rugged coast.
For storytellers
Why Snæfellsjökull National Park matters
At the western end of the Snæfellsnes peninsula, a glacier-capped volcano rises above lava fields and sea cliffs. Writer Jules Verne used it as the entrance to his Journey to the Centre of the Earth. The park has black beaches, bird cliffs and quiet fishing villages. It is a lovely, less-crowded alternative to the south coast.
Talking points
- The glacier-capped volcano is visible for miles.
- Jules Verne used it in a famous novel.
