Why Tsarevets Fortress matters
The fortress stands on a rocky hill ringed by a loop of the Yantra river. Walls, gates and the ruins of the royal palace and a patriarchal church remain at the top. In the evening, a light show shines on the fortress. It's the best place to understand why the town was a capital.
