Why Alcazar of the Christian Monarchs matters

This fortress was a residence of the Catholic Monarchs in the late fifteenth century. Inside there are Roman mosaics, towers with views, and gardens of fountains, ponds and orange trees. In the evening the gardens are lit. It is an easy and quiet complement to the Mezquita.

Talking points

  • The gardens have terraces of ponds and fountains.
  • The Catholic Monarchs used it as a base while planning the conquest of Granada.
  • Climb a tower for views of the city.
