Why Blagaj Tekke matters

The Buna river bursts from the foot of a vertical limestone cliff, and right there a white-walled monastery perches at the water's edge. It was a place of retreat for a Sufi community, and visitors still come for quiet. Take your shoes off to look inside and then eat trout at one of the riverside restaurants.

Talking points

  • The river emerges from a large cave beneath the cliff.
  • The building was a Sufi dervish lodge.
  • Riverside restaurants serve trout.
