Why Mandraki Harbour matters

Mandraki is the small harbour just beside the old town. Two tall columns topped by deer stand at the entrance, and a fortress and a row of windmills line the breakwater. Legend says the Colossus of Rhodes straddled this entrance, though most historians doubt it. A pleasant evening walk.

Talking points

  • The Colossus of Rhodes once stood somewhere in the city.
  • Deer statues mark the harbour entrance.
  • Windmills line the breakwater.
