Why Rhodes Town matters

Rhodes Town is one of the best-preserved medieval cities in Europe, with its walls, gates and cobbled lanes still standing. It was the stronghold of the Knights of St John for more than two centuries, and their cobbled Street of the Knights and the Grand Master's Palace are still there. Outside the walls are beaches and a bustling harbour. Beyond the city, Lindos and the island's coast give you the beach side of Rhodes.

Talking points

  • The Old Town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
  • The Knights of St John fortified the city, and the walls are still impressive.
  • Lindos and island beaches are an easy day trip.
