Why Lviv Market Square matters

Market Square, or Rynok, is the beating heart of Lviv. A tall town hall tower stands in the middle, and houses in many colours and styles surround it, each with its own history. Cafés and restaurants spill out onto the cobbles, and the surrounding streets offer coffee houses, chocolate shops and small museums. It is part of the World Heritage site of the historic centre.

Talking points

  • Houses on the square have been preserved, many with Renaissance and baroque details.
  • The town hall tower can be climbed for a view.
  • The historic centre is a World Heritage Site.
