Why Perast matters

Perast is a single quiet street of baroque palaces and churches right on the water, with tall belltowers and tiny harbours. In its prime it was home to wealthy sea captains, and their grand houses still line the shore. Have a coffee on the waterfront and take a boat to the islet facing the town. It's a favourite for a slow afternoon.

Talking points

  • Baroque palaces line a narrow waterfront.
  • Seafaring families built the grand houses.
  • Boats leave for the two small islands opposite.
