Why Pula Arena matters

Few Roman amphitheatres survive this well. The three-storey outer wall rises above the harbour, and inside you can sit on stone seating where crowds once watched gladiator fights. Today it hosts concerts and film events under the open sky. Walk underneath to see the exhibition in the galleries, then climb to the top rows for the view of the bay.

Talking points

  • The outer wall is almost entirely intact.
  • Concerts and festivals are held inside in summer.
  • Underground galleries hold exhibitions.
