Why Seljalandsfoss matters

Seljalandsfoss pours over a former sea cliff, and a path lets you walk behind the curtain of water. Expect to get wet, so bring a rain jacket. At sunset the spray glows orange. A few minutes' walk along the cliff leads to smaller hidden falls, including Gljúfrabúi, tucked inside a canyon. It's one of the easiest and most photogenic stops on the south coast.

Talking points

  • You can walk behind the falls.
  • Gljúfrabúi hides in a cave nearby.
  • Sunset light is magical.

Good to know: The path behind the falls can be slippery or closed in icy conditions.
