Why Spianada Square matters

The Spianada is a vast open space between the old town and the Old Fortress. On one side runs the Liston, an arcaded row of cafes modelled on Paris. Cricket is played on the green, a legacy of British rule. A good place to sit and watch life go by.

Talking points

  • The Liston arcade was modelled on Paris.
  • Cricket is played here in summer.
  • It separates the old town from the fortress.
