Why St Michael's Golden-Domed Monastery matters

With its gleaming gold domes and bright blue walls, this monastery is a landmark of central Kyiv. The original cathedral was demolished in the 1930s and the present building is a reconstruction completed in the late 20th century on its medieval foundations. Some medieval mosaics from the original were saved before the demolition and are kept elsewhere. A quiet, rewarding stop.
