Why St Olaf's Church matters

St Olaf's spire dominates the skyline in the lower town. In the Middle Ages, according to local tradition, it was among the tallest buildings in Europe, an impressive landmark for sailors. A narrow spiral staircase leads to a viewing balcony, and from there you can look over the old town and the harbour. The climb is a challenge but a rewarding one.
