Castle
Stirling Castle
Stirling, United Kingdom
A Renaissance royal castle on a volcanic crag with sweeping views over the plain.
Town · United Kingdom · Scotland
A historic town dominated by its castle and the nearby Wallace Monument, at the gateway to the Highlands.
For storytellers
Stirling is sometimes called the gateway to the Highlands because it sits where lowland and highland Scotland meet. Its castle on a rocky crag was a favourite of Scottish monarchs, and the battles of Stirling Bridge and Bannockburn happened close by. The view from the castle walls and from the Wallace Monument is superb. It is also a good base for the Trossachs and Loch Lomond.
