Why Sun Voyager matters

Sólfar, or the Sun Voyager, is a gleaming steel sculpture that resembles a Viking ship. Its creator said it was a dream boat, an ode to the sun. It's on the seafront promenade, facing Mount Esja across the bay, and it's especially pretty at sunrise, sunset, and under the northern lights. A short walk from Harpa, it's an easy photo stop.

Talking points

  • It's often described as a Viking ship, but the artist called it a dream boat.
  • Mount Esja forms the backdrop across the bay.
  • It's free to visit any time.
