Why Vondelpark matters

The Vondelpark is the city's living room. On warm days it fills with picnickers, joggers, cyclists and people simply lying on the grass. Paths wind past ponds and trees, cafes sit among the greenery and in summer there is often free music in the open-air theatre. It is right next to the big museums, so it is a lovely way to recharge.

Talking points

  • The park sits close to the Rijksmuseum and Van Gogh Museum.
  • In summer, free open-air performances are common.
  • It is popular with locals as well as visitors.
