Why Aker Brygge matters

Aker Brygge was once a shipyard and is now one of Oslo's most popular places to eat, drink and walk by the water. Terraces face the harbour, and boats leave for fjord islands and cruises. It's busy on warm evenings and a good place to sample Norwegian seafood. From here you can stroll to the Opera House along the waterfront.

Talking points

  • The district was converted from a shipyard.
  • Ferries to the islands start nearby.
  • Waterfront terraces fill up on summer evenings.
