Why Gibralfaro Castle matters

Perched at the top of the hill, Gibralfaro is a stronghold linked by a double wall to the Alcazaba. A short climb brings you to ramparts overlooking the bullring, the harbour and the sea. It is a good place to see Malaga laid out below, especially in the late afternoon.

Talking points

  • A walled path links it to the Alcazaba.
  • The ramparts overlook the port and the bullring.
  • Late afternoon gives lovely light.
