Why Monteliusvägen matters

Monteliusvägen is a gentle boardwalk-like path along a cliff on Södermalm. In a few minutes you get a sweeping view over the old town, City Hall and Lake Mälaren, with benches where people stop for sunset. It is free, easy to find and usually quieter than the famous towers. Bring a thermos or a bun and watch the evening light turn the city orange.

Talking points

  • It is a short, flat and free walk.
  • Sunset gives the best light on the old town.
  • Södermalm cafes nearby are good for a fika afterwards.
