Why Sacromonte matters

On the hill above the Albaicin, Sacromonte is a neighbourhood where people live in whitewashed houses dug into the hillside. It is the traditional home of Granada's Roma community and an important place for flamenco. Evenings are best, when you can see a flamenco performance in a cave venue. There is also a museum of cave life.

Talking points

  • Many homes are dug into the hillside.
  • It is closely tied to the zambra, a Granada flamenco style.
  • The walk offers wonderful views of the Alhambra.
