Why Cēsis matters

At its centre stands a medieval castle of the Livonian Order, with a newer manor house beside it, and the surrounding old town is full of wooden houses, parks and little cafés. Visitors are given an oil lantern to explore the dark castle towers, and the town is also known for local breweries.
