Why Sigulda matters

Sigulda is the base for exploring the Gauja valley, an easy day trip from Riga. The town has a ruined medieval castle, a cable car across the river and trails to sandstone caves and viewpoints. Across the valley stands Turaida Castle with its tall red tower. It is a pleasant place in any season, and an adventure hub in winter when people come to bobsleigh and ski.
