Why Turaida Museum Reserve matters

Turaida is the castle that looks like it belongs on a postcard. Its tall round tower stands on a hill above the Gauja valley, and you can climb it for a view across the forest. Around the castle there is a sculpture garden, a small wooden church and the grave of a woman from a famous Latvian legend. Spend a morning here and then walk down to the Gutmanis Cave.

Talking points

  • The tower offers a view over the Gauja valley.
  • An old wooden church stands in the grounds.
