Why Latin Bridge matters

It is a modest bridge, but the events nearby in 1914 had worldwide consequences, because the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife took place close by. Today people cross it to go from the old town to the Habsburg quarter. Stand in the middle and look along the river to get a feel for the city.

Talking points

  • An assassination nearby in 1914 helped set off the First World War.
  • It links the old town and the Austro-Hungarian district.
  • The river is small, but the history is large.
