Why Löyly Sauna matters

Löyly is the public sauna that shows off what modern Finnish sauna culture looks like. The timber building has a wood-fired sauna, a smoke sauna, a terrace on the water and ladders that let you plunge into the Baltic Sea. People sit, steam and cool off, then eat on the terrace. If you do only one sauna in Finland, this is a friendly and easy one to try. The word löyly means the steam that rises from the stones.

Talking points

  • Löyly means the steam that rises from the hot stones.
  • You can climb down a ladder and swim in the Baltic.
  • The building itself is an example of modern timber architecture.

Good to know: Book ahead for evenings and weekends; swimwear is required in this sauna.
